A given amount of solvent can only absorb a certain amount of solid before no more will dissolve; when this happens the liquid is said to be saturated. We have set up our experiment to find out what will happen to our string submerged in water with bicarbonate of soda. We predict that crystals will form as the solution saturates the string and the water evaporates. When the water does evaporate, it will leave behind the baking soda crystals.
