We wish you a very warm welcome to the Birkwood Primary School website and hope that by visiting us, you will get a picture of our vision, aims and the values we uphold – The Birkwood Way.
It is a huge honour for me to write as Headteacher of our lovely school. We are striving to deliver an exciting knowledge-based curriculum which produces leaders, young people who can work both in a team and independently and crucially opt to ‘do the right thing.’ This is encapsulated by ‘The Birkwood Way’ – the centre of our values, vision and everyday practice.
At our school, we believe that by showing 100% Effort, 100% Kindness, and 100% Respect, every child can shine both personally and academically.
🔹 100% Effort – Encourages children to always try their best, persevere through challenges, and develop a strong work ethic that will support them throughout life.
🔹 100% Kindness – Fosters a caring and inclusive environment where children feel valued, supported, and able to build positive relationships with others.
🔹 100% Respect – Teaches children to appreciate and understand different perspectives, creating a safe and welcoming school community where everyone is treated with fairness and consideration.
By embracing these values, our children grow into confident, compassionate, and responsible individuals, fully prepared for their exciting futures.
We seek to develop the whole child, harnessing and celebrating each of their unique talents, strengths and personalities. Exciting opportunities enable this both inside and outside of the classroom.
Our high-quality learning environments are enhanced by a modern library, restocked regularly with recommended and chosen reads and a purpose-built children's kitchen, so that children cook as part of their learning in DT, Science, Maths and Literacy.
We also have an award-winning community and sensory garden area where children grow vegetables, fruit, flowers and herbs.
The school has recently completed a large extension. Three state of the art classrooms have been added, and a new sports and play facility has enhanced our superb facilities even further.
Children use technology regularly and have access to 1-1 devices in several lessons. Our work in ICT is transformative, provides access to several curriculum areas and prepares children for life in modern day Britain.
Foundation Stage has been extended. We have boosted our excellent facilities with 3 remodelled indoor areas as well as developing excellent outdoor facilities for our youngest children. The outdoor area for Reception/ EYFS2 is brand new as of November 2024.
At Birkwood, we recognise and value the vital contributions that our families and wider community make in the lives of our children. Birkwood is truly a family and we are very proud of our #IncredibleCommunity.
With best wishes,
Mr. Daniel Wood
